Met Gala 2024

I have to say this year’s Met theme was one of my favourites. Do not be mistaken that the theme is the distinct concept for the museum exhibit and the dress code impacts the overall ambiance of the event which is meant to encourage what the attendees wear. As you all probably already know, the theme was “Reawakening Beauties,” which is all about celebrating archival pieces. However, the dress code titled the “Garden of Time” was inspired by a short story by J.G. Ballard. The beauty of this dress code is that it is open to various interpretations due to its broadness.

Best Dressed:

ZENDAYA

Zendaya walked the carpet twice in a night with two gorgeous dresses that embodied different aspects of the dress code. Zendaya’s first look was a Maison Margiela by John Galliano look and the second was an archival Givenchy piece with an Alexander McQueen headpiece. Her first look took a more literal approach to the theme whereas her second look embodied the darker aspects of the short story about the decaying garden. Overall, I really loved her looks and think she was the best dressed host.

GIGI HADID in Thom Browne

CARDI B in Windowsen

KENDALL JENNER

She wore archival Givenchy from the 1999 collection that has never been worn by a human before. Overall, this was a beautiful gown that conveniently fit her beautifully without being altered. I have mixed feelings about this look because I don’t see how it fits the dress code. However, I loved her two after party looks!

EMMA CHAMBERLAIN in Jean Paul Gaultier

MINDY KALING in Gaurav Gupta

GRETA LEE in Loewe

LANA DEL RAY

Lana wore Alexander McQueen that referenced the AW06 Collection.

I loved this unique approach to the dress code and the reference to McQueen’s 2006 collection embodies the theme as well.

She looked absolutely gorgeous and brought the drama for the Met!

TAYLOR RUSSEL in Loewe

KARLIE KLOSS in Swarovski

ARIANA GRANDE

Ariana wore this stunning Loewe gown on the carpet that was beautiful. I like this gentle approach on the dress code. The bodice is made of mother of pearl stone and reminds us of how beautiful things are often found in the most unpredictable places. I suggest you look at some clips from her performance at the Met because she was the surprise singer. She wore a Maison Margiela piece during this performance.

UGBAB ABDI in Atelier Prabal Gurung

AMELIA GRAY in Undercover

LENA MAHFOUF in Schiaparelli

TYLA

ELLE FANNING

This is another one of my favourite looks of the night. This Balmain gown is made entirely of sand and was molded to her body. It is meant to only be worn once with the intent that it can be part of the exhibit, the perfect integration of dress code and theme. I mean look at the hourglass timer accessory!

Another Balmain gown that I adored. This is made of silicone and is a very creative approach to the dress code. It embodies the theme of the glass pedals in the garden throughout the short story. I was in awe.

BRUNA MARQUEZINE in Tory Burch

WISDOM KAYE in Robert Wun

Sabrina Harrison

DEMI MOORE AND HARRIS REED

This was a super interesting concept that integrated these two pieces into a story. I loved how Harris integrated these pieces a reference to the evolution of time in the way nature (flower) blossoms.

MONA PATEL

My favourite look of the night was with out a doubt this beautiful gown by Iris Van Herpen.

The shape, colour and design all embody the dress code without being extremely literal.

I think she looked amazing in this.

(Rumour has it the butterflies on her gown actually move!)

That’s all from me, thanks for reading! I’d love to hear what you think so please leave comments and check out my social media pages for more Met content. Don’t forget to subscribe!
