Top Must-Have Wardrobe Essentials for Your European Summer Trip

The ultimate five step guide to packing chic outfits for your European summer vacation:

One of the most challenging aspects of packing for a European summer trip is balancing packing light and having enough options to beat the heat. This five step guide will provide stylish and practical wardrobe essentials to help you pack for your European summer vacation.

Tip #1: Summer Dresses

Sundresses are a must to pack for your European trip.  They are practical because they will keep you fresh and cool.  Additionally, they are easy to pack because they will not take up a lot of room in your suitcase or add unnecessary weight.  Summer dresses are flexible because they can be used in various ways. The way you style them will allow you to use them as a beach cover-up or formal dinner outfit.

    Tip #2: Matching Sets

Matching sets are the easiest way to look chic and effortlessly classy.  They are practical because they are easy to style and can be paired with other pieces you’re packing.  For example, you can wear a matching set (shorts and tank) but change the bottoms to a long/mini skirt for a transitional evening look.  This helps you sustain your light packing promise by getting multiple outfits out of fewer pieces.

    Tip #3: Skirts

As someone who always prefers wearing pants, I can understand the hesitations you may have with packing skirts.  However, there are various pros to wearing skirts for your European summer vacation.  Not only do they keep you cool but they can be worn in various ways.  For example, you can wear a tennis skirt for touring during the day with a big T-shirt and sneakers.  However, you can also wear it as a dinner outfit with a block heel and blouse.

    Tip #4: Bottom/Top Ratio

As someone who is a “sweat-er,” I know the feeling of worrying you’re going to sweat through your shirts.  The key to packing for a hot trip is building your outfits based on your bottoms.  Pack an appropriate number of bottoms to cycle through during your trip and double the number of tops.  This ensures you don’t overpack by allowing you to make multiple outfits with various tanks, shirts, vests, and blouses. For example, a trouser short can be worn hundreds of ways depending on the itinerary of the day.

    Tip #5: Accessories

One of my most recommended general styling tips is accessorizing.  However, it is especially important for a European summer trip because the heat can limit your outfit options.  Packing a few belts, hats, and some costume jewelry is the easiest way to elevate your outfits without overpacking.
