Ok let’s talk trends, specifically 2024 trends. Now some of these may be specific to Spring but I can see them having an impression on the year. I know I’m a little late to the party but I wanted these to be accurate. Therefore, these are not predictions but rather commonalities I’ve seen on runways and heard from figures in the industry. So without further ado, let’s dive into it…
1. Translucent

I have been seeing it everyone, translucent skirts and materials. I’ve seen it on runways and on celebrities.
This is telling me that we shouldn’t be afraid to show a little skin or shy away from sheerness this year.
2. Bows
So coquette vibes aren’t going anywhere. Bows were a trend and still are a trend. They are here to stay and I’m not mad about it.
Simone Roche did an excellent job of showcasing this for her couture collection for Jean Paul Gautier. Plus, Sandy Liang’s recent show during New York Fashion Week was all about bows!

3. Quiet Luxury/Preppy
I will always admire the quiet luxury trend because I think it is timeless and classy. I know a negative stigma is associated with it because it seems pretentious or inaccessible. However, I completely disagree with this. I think they’re accessible ways to fulfill the trend. I’m not into obnoxious logos and excessive branding, which is why I love quiet luxury. Now when I say this I don’t mean basic pieces and muted tones, I mean good quality pieces crafted beautifully.
This plays into the preppy vibes that we will be seeing this year. If anyone listens to Emma Chamberlain’s podcast, you’ll know this was one of her predictions based on the Miu Miu show. I completely agree with her because I also saw indications of this during couture week. Additionally, I feel like the idea of nautical, preppy style never really goes out of style and will always be on my Pinterest “old money vibes” board.

4. Oversized
Designers brought the drama at couture week with the exaggerated silhouettes. However, translated in a more wearable way, oversized clothing seems to do the trick. I adore baggy clothing because it is often regarded as casual but now a baggy three-piece suit can be such a power movement. Not only is this style flattering for many different body shapes but it is inspired by a streetwear origin.
5. “Useful” Clothing
Another Emma Chamberlain prediction that I saw specifically translated in the Valentino show is practical clothing. Specifically pockets, excessive pockets that are used for style but also very useful and practical. Now this is great because I am someone who loves purses but hates carrying them. Meaning, if I can throw everything in my pockets, I will.
