How to get the Perfect Blowout?

Let’s talk hair, specifically Blowouts? There are tons of different methods and tips on how to get the perfect blowout. But what really works? I’ve spent hours trying millions of techniques and I have finally found the perfect routine that helps me get my curly hair smooth and voluptuous!

Hair Washing:

To achieve the perfect blowout, we have to follow a specific technique from the beginning of our routine. Washing your hair correctly is essential when styling your hair. These are a few tips that work for my Curly Dry Hair…

  1. Double cleanse (shampoo) to help maintain the longevity of the blowout
  2. Use less conditioner than you normal would (for the curly-haired folks)
  3. Use a Microfiber Towel to avoid frizz

Drying Process:

This often seems like the most intimidating step in the entire process. Traditionally, blowouts involve a blowdryer and a brush. But it is extremely difficult to perfect this technique unless you’re an experienced hairdresser. Luckily, there are much easier methods for the rest of us amateurs to achieve the same result.

1. Prep

I find that using the slightest amount of leave-in conditioner and heat protector is the perfect combo. Adding too many products can lead to greasiness.

2. Pre

Before you start drying your hair, make sure that it is damp. You do not want your hair to be soaking wet but it should not be dry either.

3. Dry

Section your hair into manageable parts and begin drying. Ensure that your roots are dry and that you reapply heat on your ends.

Personally, I love my Revlon Brush and have not tried other tools. I know there are many mixed reviews on it and that is why I recommend you use your favourite hair drying tools, whatever it may be!

Styling:

This is my favourite part of the entire process. The process does not end at simply blow-drying your hair. The secret to the perfect blowout is styling your hair after blow-drying it.

  1. Curling Iron: Once your hair is completely dry and has cooled down, start adding loose curls with a curling iron. I recommend using a 1″ Curling Iron because we want to achieve natural-looking waves. Make sure to hold the curls when they are still hot to help the curl hold.
  2. Velcro Hair Rollers: I usually only use rollers for my bangs and front pieces. However, you can always add more rollers to add volume to other parts of your hair or your whole head. Start from the end of your hair and pull upwards while turning the roller.
  3. Voila, you did it! To maintain it add a little hairspray (not sticky) and hair oil. Make sure to put your hair up at night using a satin scrunchie to avoid creases.
